Codex brings repository guidance into GitHub review
The Codex GitHub integration supports requested and automatic code reviews. Repository guidance in AGENTS.md can direct the review toward the issues your team considers important.
A useful evaluation starts with those instructions. Give Codex the same review conventions you give a human teammate, including the conditions under which a warning is worth leaving on a pull request.
Codex and Proofline side by side
Documented workflows and the evidence to inspect. Custom tools and configuration can change what a review can access.
Scroll the table horizontally to compare both products.
| Compare | Codex | Proofline |
|---|---|---|
| Review instructions | AGENTS.md guidance and GitHub review configuration. | Organization review settings and an explicit deployment environment for the assessment. |
| Code identity | Inspect the pull request revision covered by the review. | Repository and commit identity are pinned, or the input is an exact base plus a content-addressed patch. |
| Environment claims | Examine which tools and observations support the deployment assumptions in a finding. | Infrastructure findings require recorded World evidence; sandbox execution alone does not establish environment facts. |
How Proofline investigates changes explains its code and environment inputs. Check connector coverage before assuming that an assessment can observe a resource.
A migration outlives a short-lived database credential
Imagine a deployment that obtains a database credential before running a migration. A change introduces a long backfill before the process opens its next connection.
The code review needs to reason about when the credential is used and whether the application renews it. Assessing the deployment also requires the authentication configuration that applies to the target database.
This is an illustrative case, not a reported Codex miss. Test the same revision with the instructions and tools you normally provide. Inspect whether any claimed authentication failure is supported by both the code path and the environment evidence.
Keep the instructions; inspect the assumptions
Use Codex review when you want repository-specific review guidance applied in GitHub. Add Proofline when the deployment decision requires a recorded account of infrastructure configuration.
Assess each warning on its evidence and consequence. Finding count alone rewards repeated or weak comments, and a review with no findings does not establish that deployment will succeed.
Questions about Codex and Proofline
Which Codex workflow does this page compare?
The documented GitHub code review integration. A custom Codex workflow with additional tools or experiments has a different configuration and should be evaluated as configured.
Can a coding agent’s tests replace an environment assessment?
Tests establish behavior under their execution conditions. A claim about a selected deployment environment still needs evidence about that environment.
Try a change from your own repository
Connect a GitHub repository and its deployment environment, then inspect the evidence behind the findings. Missing evidence stays visible; a review without findings does not establish deployment success.
