Sourcery covers review and repository security scanning
Sourcery’s documentation describes automated pull request reviews and repository security scans. It includes setup for GitHub and GitLab, including supported self-hosted variants.
Sourcery’s review offering extends beyond the Python refactoring tool some developers first encountered. Evaluate the current review workflow against the languages and hosting setup your team uses.
Sourcery and Proofline side by side
Documented workflows and the evidence to inspect. Custom tools and configuration can change what a review can access.
Scroll the table horizontally to compare both products.
| Compare | Sourcery | Proofline |
|---|---|---|
| Primary work | Pull request reviews and repository security scans. | Change-specific investigations using code and recorded infrastructure configuration. |
| Repository host | Documented GitHub and GitLab integrations, including self-hosted setup. | GitHub is the supported repository host; infrastructure support has its own connector scope. |
| Evaluation | Check review usefulness on your languages and the deployment model of your source host. | Check evidence coverage for the actual database, workload, and network involved in the change. |
How Proofline investigates changes explains its code and environment inputs. Check connector coverage before assuming that an assessment can observe a resource.
A cleanup removes a permission still used by a scheduled job
Suppose a refactor removes an API code path and its associated IAM permission. A scheduled job still calls the same cloud operation under the shared role.
The investigation needs to trace the remaining call and establish which identity the deployed job uses. Without the identity relationship, a reviewer cannot tell whether removing the permission affects that job.
This illustrative case exercises code ownership and infrastructure attribution together. Confirm that the relevant role and workload are covered by the configured sources, then inspect the evidence linking the job to the permission.
Check source-host fit before comparing findings
Choose Sourcery when its review and security scanning fit your codebase and source host. Evaluate Proofline for a GitHub repository when deployment permissions or resource configuration are part of the review question.
If your code lives only in GitLab, do not assume that Proofline can replace your existing review integration. Establish repository support before running a tool comparison.
Questions about Sourcery and Proofline
Is Sourcery only a Python refactoring tool?
No. Its current documentation includes automated pull request review and repository security scanning. Evaluate that offering on the code you maintain.
Does Proofline support GitLab repositories?
Proofline currently supports GitHub for repository onboarding. Its infrastructure connector inventory does not imply support for another source host.
Try a change from your own repository
Connect a GitHub repository and its deployment environment, then inspect the evidence behind the findings. Missing evidence stays visible; a review without findings does not establish deployment success.
