What Copilot reviews
Copilot code review identifies issues and suggests code changes in pull requests. Teams can configure automatic reviews and provide repository instructions.
Copilot can also use configured Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and agent skills. These tools can supply context beyond repository files. GitHub explains how to inspect their use through review attributions and session logs.
What Proofline records
Proofline ties an exact code revision to a recorded snapshot of the selected environment. Supported integrations supply infrastructure and deployment facts for the review.
A finding explains how the change can fail and cites the facts behind that conclusion. Missing, stale, or unreachable evidence stays visible. An unavailable environment assessment remains incomplete. Read Proofline’s review limits.
The database limit changes the finding
In this illustrative example, a service opens 20 database connections per task. Increasing the task count to twelve requests 240 connections before other consumers are considered.
A database with 197 available application connections cannot meet that demand. A target with a larger allowance changes the calculation, even when the code and diff are identical.
The review therefore needs to identify the intended database and establish its connection limit. A configuration value from another environment can produce the wrong conclusion. Read the simulated capacity finding.
When to use configured tools or Proofline
Choose Copilot when GitHub’s integrated review workflow fits your team. If you add external tools, evaluate the evidence and permissions that your configuration supplies.
Choose Proofline when you need code revisions linked to recorded infrastructure evidence, with missing evidence tracked as part of the assessment. Check support for your infrastructure before connecting it.
For either approach, trace an environment claim to its source. Check which resource it describes and what happens when the source becomes unavailable. A review without findings does not establish deployment success.
This comparison uses published documentation, not a product benchmark. Custom tools can supply infrastructure context; their behavior depends on your configuration.
