Discuss reviews in Discord

Connect a Discord server so members can ask about a pull request review in a Discord thread.

Connect a server#

An organization administrator connects Discord. Use a recent sign-in session; sign in again if Proofline requests it.

1. In Discord, copy the link of the text channel where review discussions should start.
2. Open Organization → Connections and select Discord.
3. Paste the link into Discussion channel link.
4. Select Connect Discord.
5. Approve Proofline in Discord for the server that contains the channel.

The page shows Connecting Discord… until Proofline confirms its Discord commands, then Connected. Use Open discussion channel to check the destination. A Discord server can be connected to only one Proofline organization.

If setup stops with an error, select Cancel setup and connect again. Discord is not enabled for this Proofline deployment means Discord is unavailable for your deployment.

Start a review discussion#

On a pull request review, select Discuss in Discord. Proofline starts a thread for that review in the discussion channel, or opens the existing thread. If Discord cannot confirm the thread, select Check again.

Starting a discussion requires organization membership and GitHub read access to the repository. A read-only view shows only an existing discussion link.

Ask a question#

In the review's thread, run /proofline ask with your question. You can also choose Ask Proofline from a message's Apps menu to ask that message's text. Proofline answers only in a thread that it started for a review.

The first time, Proofline replies privately with an account link. Open it while signed in with your GitHub account, then select Link account. If the link has expired, run /proofline ask again for a new one.

Answers use the review's recorded commits and evidence. They contain prose and links, without code excerpts or evidence values. Asking does not change the review, its findings, or a merge gate. Your questions in Discord, Slack, and the console count toward one hourly limit.

If Proofline replies that Discord answers are withheld, your deployment does not publish answers in Discord.

Manage your linked account#

Use Discord account in your account menu to see linked accounts or select Unlink. An unlinked account needs a new link before it can ask about reviews.

Disconnect Discord#

An administrator selects Disconnect and confirms. Proofline stops answering in that server. Linked accounts must link again after Discord is reconnected.
