Administer an enterprise

An enterprise gives its administrators a shared view of linked organizations. Organization owners decide whether to link and which policies to delegate.

Create an enterprise#

  1. Open Enterprises from your account menu.
  2. Select Create enterprise and enter its Name.
  3. Optionally expand GitHub Enterprise account and enter its numeric GitHub enterprise ID.
  4. Select Create enterprise.

You become its first administrator. It contains no organizations until an owner accepts an invitation. See Link an organization to an enterprise.

Grant or revoke administration#

Open the enterprise's Administrators page. Under Grant administration, enter the account's numeric GitHub user ID and select Grant administration. A login is display information; the grant belongs to the numeric account ID.

To remove an administrator, select Revoke, then Revoke grant. Access ends on that account's next request. Grant another administrator before revoking the last one. Revoking your own grant removes your enterprise access too.

Inspect linked organizations#

  • Usage shows each linked organization's credits spent since the start of the UTC month. The enterprise does not pool or fund credits.
  • Roles shows each organization's role catalog and capabilities. Role assignments remain inside the organization.
  • Audit log combines linked organizations' audited actions, oldest first. Select Later events to continue.

Enterprise administration does not grant membership or repository access inside an organization. Use Policy templates for changes the organization delegated to the enterprise.
